January 2006 Meeting

The second workshop of theIWGSC was held on January 14, 2006, at the Plant and Animal Genome (PAG) conference in San Diego, California. A presentation about the consortium was done by K. Eversole and was followed by progress reports on projects that address the goals of the consortium by E. Paux, K. Devos, and J. Dvorak. In addition, N. Stein and R. Wilson presented projects on physical mapping and sequencing in barley and maize, respectively. AnIWGSCbusiness meeting and the first official meeting of the Coordinating Committee (CC) were held in the evening of the same day. Reports were given for different coordinating areas that are essential for the development of theIWGSCprojects, including:

• Chromosome sorting and chromosome arms BAC libraries effort (J. Dolezel);
• Genetic mapping for anchoring the physical map (R. Appels);
• Annotation pipelines, dB management (R. Buell);
• FL CDNA (Y. Ogihara); and
• Resource centers (H. Berges).
