IWGSC Undergraduate Summer Intern

The IWGSC is looking for a Genome Curation Intern to join an international research project performing large-scale genome sequencing of common bread wheat. This will be a 10- week paid internship with a competitive salary. The start and end dates are flexible, preferably May-August 2024. Remote work is a possibility. Genome Curation Intern

About the Position

As a member of the genome assembly and annotation group, this position will join a dynamic cross-functional team of scientists working to deliver the highest quality genomics data to the research community. Responsibilities include training on state-of- the-art genome visualization and editing tools, validation of genome data, and reporting of scientific observations in preparation for publication. This paid summer internship will provide valuable experience for undergraduate students interested in pursuing biotechnology, computational biology, or genome informatics. Exceptional performance in this role may open additional opportunities to enrich education and work experience by attending a world-renowned scientific conference.

  • 10-week paid internship at a competitive salary (~400-hr).

Requirements

  • Actively pursuing a major in life sciences, genomics, or agriculture; candidate must be entering junior or senior year of a 4-year bachelor’s degree program
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-motivated, with ability to set and accomplish goals.
  • Excellent oral communication and writing skill
  • Effective computer skills computer
  • English language fluency
